7        Tell us a bit about yourself (name, location, affiliations, and personal stuff).  
My name is Fahima, I have worked as an accountant for several years in Canada and previously in Iraq. Currently, I live between Abu Dhabi and Toronto.  I am a self-taught artist.  I have always been interested in Art and dabbled in it when I was in High School.  When we came to Abu Dhabi, I had more time to practice this hobby and develop it to a semi professional one.

7        What inspires you? Where do your ideas come from?

Culture is the way of life to a society with its distinctive spiritual, materialistic, incorporeal and emotional features. Beauty is the gift of God to humans and nature. Reflections on these components form the backbone of my paintings

 

7        Greatest claim to fame (with respect to your craft)

I succeeded in turning this hobby into my life occupation.

I participated in a number of art exhibitions.

All of which buttressed my desire to devote my time fully to explore the world of art.

 

7        Where were you born? 
I was born in Baghdad, Iraq

 

7        How long have you been doing your craft?  
Since childhood and schooling I was disposed towards painting. My room, my books, my school events were canvasses where I exercised my ART.

7        How did you learn your craft? 
By just doing it and pushing myself to learn with every project I tackle.

Black & White

7        What was the last CD you bought?

Classic music

7        Are you married?  
Yes, my husband is my greatest supportive.

 

7        Do you have kids?  If so please tell us more about them?  
Yes, my daughters are teachers, living in New Jersey- USA and my son is an electrical engineer graduated from Mac Master University in Canada.

7        How long have you been in the UAE? 
Been in Abu Dhabi 5 years and will probably stay for one more year.


7        Do you belong to any other groups? 
No 


7        What are your favourite materials? 
Favourite media currently is oil.  But I am dabbling more and more into the qualities of Acrylic and my future work will probably show more of that.  


7        What is your favourite colour?  
Mix of light blue and light green

 

7        What are you reading right now? 
History of art

 

7        Any tips on selling handmade stuff? 
Don't undervalue your craft.  


7        Apart from creating things, what else do you do? 
Swimming, walking, gathering with friends

7        How can ARTE be improved? 
I think that ARTE is a pretty well run organisation.  I have the greatest respect for Miriam and Paul for their dedication, support and professional approaches to art.
